Our Pledge of Solidarity Against Racial Injustice

Insight by
June 18, 2020

As the number of precious lives lost due to systemic racism and racial injustice continues to grow, so does our collective pain, grief, concern and frustration. The deaths of Black men and women, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others, have rightfully sparked an outpouring of support―and demand―for change.

As an organization that has called Detroit home since opening its doors in 2013, LoVasco Consulting Group stands in solidarity with our community in strongly denouncing and condemning pervasive racism, discrimination, marginalization, inequity, intolerance and injustice that persists in our country, in our communities and in our workplaces.

Treating people with care is one of our core values, as is doing what is right. Serving as a key sponsor for Racquet Up Detroit and being actively involved with the Pope Francis Center are among the ways we’ve tried to embody our core values of being a positive force in the community. While we are honored and proud to be a part of these organizations, we realize it’s not enough. We must do more.

As Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

As a predominantly white firm, stepping up and speaking out can be intimidating. But the alternative is far more daunting because the status quo will prevail. Ultimately, we must surmount hesitation with conviction: We believe in our duty to gain a deeper understanding, to not only hear but to listen, and to actively and always stand against racism.

We reject complacency is another of our other core values. This is a pivotal opportunity for us to live out this core value. We pledge to:

  • Start a real conversation about race within our organization.
  • Examine our firm and establish efforts to promote inclusivity by identifying underrepresented groups and seeking channels for finding diverse candidates.
  • Strengthen our commitment to the many organizations we currently support—both financially and with our time—and seek new community outreach opportunities.
  • Connect with other businesses to collaboratively achieve something transformative for our community as we collectively advocate for and activate meaningful change.

With commitment,

The LoVasco Team
